VIVARIUM SUBSTRATES

1. Aloflora – This ceramic rock is a special lightweight aggregate that is formed into pebbles and baked at high temperatures.  The hard outer shell will not damage plant roots while the porous interior retains moisture.  It ensures excellent aeration and is reusable.

Advantages of Aliflora:

1. High water absorption

2. Stops soil compaction

3. Allows adequate ventilation

4. Prevents root rot.

5. Inert, odorless, lightweight

6. Has a neutral pH

2. Hydroton - 1. This lightweight clay aggregate is an excellent growing medium.  Clay aggregates are superheated at 1200 C, creating an inner pore structure and ceramic shell that holds moisture for roots and helps minimize the the buildup of salts and nutrient concentrations.  The aggregate draws the water/nutrient solution upward from the bottom of the container, pebble-by-pebble, thereby releasing it to the plant roots as needed.  The ideal round –shaped structure of the clay provides excellent root aeration and will not compact.  Clay aggregate is chemically inert, completely odorless, will not degrade and has a neutral pH of 7.0.  Its easily washed, completely reusable and will last indefinitely.  Excellent in systems with potted plants.
